Greetings! Thank you for your interest in Pineywoods Detachment 1189 and the Marine Corps League. The Marine Corps League was formed so that its members could join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps. Members include those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps, as well as current and former Navy FMF Corpsmen, those who have been honorably discharged from that service, and friends of the Corps. The Marine Corps League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of all Marines and Navy FMF Corpsmen, who proudly wear or who have worn the eagle, globe, and anchor of the Corps. It takes great pride in crediting its founding in 1923 to World War I hero, then Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune. It takes equal pride in its Federal Charter, approved by An Act of the Seventy-Fifth Congress of the United States, and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937. The League is the only Federally Chartered Marine Corps-related veterans organization in the country. The Pineywoods Detachment received its charter in February of 2005, and holds regular meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the DAV hall located at 3110 Appleby-Sand Road, Nacogdoches. All current and former Marines, Navy FMF Corpsmen, and persons interested in the United States Marine Corps are invited to join us. The detachment sponsors a Marine Corps Birthday Ball in November and participates in patriotic events like the Veterans Day Parade in Nacogdoches and displaying U.S. flags in Nacogdoches on key dates. For more information visit our website at www.pineywoodsmarines.org , call 936-559-5571, or contact the following officers. Semper Fidelis, and remember, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine!" See you at the meeting, Marine! If you are interested in membership, you may also fill out one of these two membership forms. Either bring them to a meeting or mail them to: Pineywoods Detachment 1189 Regular Membership (Regular members should include a copy of your DD214 or Valid ID card.)
