We at the League have lost one of our closest comrades and dearest friends. Richard Antioco “Benny” Benavides, Jr. slipped away from us on November 30, 2007, after an extended period of declining health.
     Benny was born in Dallas, Texas on September 26, 1930. His parents were Richard Antioco Benavides, Sr. and Mary Rose Ortega. In March of 1950, Benny joined the United States Marine Corps where he remained for thirty years. He retired in June of 1980. Following retirement, Benny worked in civil service from which he retired, once again, in 1993.
